Cape Corals 1 Job Ranking May Be A Little Deceiving
Looking for a job? There's no place better in the country than Cape Coral, according to a new study recently conducted by ManPower and published in Forbes. But that number could be a little deceiving.
The survey conducted by ManPower, a Milwaukee-based staffing company, puts the Cape Coral area as the number one spot in the nation to find a job. But exactly what area, and what kinds of jobs are they talking about?
"We're just booming, and business is good," said President of Marine Concepts, Matt Chambers, who's excited about the future of his company.
The Cape Coral engineering firm is expanding and looking to add six positions, mostly in manufacturing. He wasn't surprised to hear a recent study published in Forbes that points to the area as the best place in America to find a job.
"Certainly with Governor Scott and his initiatives, I can see why we were advancing in that area," said Chambers.
What do those numbers really mean? The study's sponsor, the ManPower Group, say 35-percent of employers plan to hire new staff in the first quarter of 2016.
But the Cape Coral/Fort Myers market includes Sanibel and Captiva, popular tourist spots. A lot of those employers are only planning to hire people for the season. That's not necessarily a bad thing. Those at CareerSource Florida said those short-term jobs can do a lot towards opening up long-term opportunities.
"Seasonal positions or part-time, I think that they could possibly lead in to full-time employment. Even if it's not that specific position, a full-time position will open up," said Amy Furlow of CareerSource Florida.
And while working that part-time job, the construction and healthcare industries are exploding and looking to hire.
Back at Marine Concepts, Chambers thinks the entire county is moving in the right direction.
"You've got Hertz, StormSmart, the smart companies, Shaw Development. These companies in the area that are expanding and diversifying away from tourism and housing," said Chambers.
CareerSource Florida would like to remind you that there are plenty of employers willing to pay you while you train for a position. While you might think you're not qualified, don't count yourself out.
